Kamala

Between Patong energy and north-west calm — beach village with hills.

Overview

Kamala sits between Patong and Surin. It mixes beach village energy with hillside villas and a more manageable scale than Patong — while still being a short ride from the nightlife if you want it.

Atmosphere

Beach-town days, quieter nights than Bangla, though not silent. Hills create pockets of residential calm above the beach road.

Suitable for

People who want west beach access without living in Patong, medium stays, and those comparing “close to action but not in it.”

Accommodation

Beach hotels plus hillside villas and condos. Mid-range long-term options inland/uphill; beachfront higher. Hills mean views — and scooter climbs.

Beaches

Pleasant beach for swimming and walks when conditions allow. Smaller than Bang Tao/Karon; can feel crowded in peak weeks.

Transportation

Scooter very useful (hills). Quick access toward Patong and Surin/Bang Tao. Expect some congestion near beach road in season.

Restaurants & everyday life

Restaurants and small shops along the beach area; bigger weekly shops may mean a short trip north or to larger centres. Practical but not a full city grid.

Long-term living

Popular compromise base. Confirm flood/drainage history for low-lying spots and internet on hillside properties.

Families

Reasonable family option if you want beach and calmer nights than Patong. Hills and roads need care with kids and scooters.

Remote workers

Workable with home Wi‑Fi; some cafés exist. Cherng Talay remains a strong daytime work alternative nearby to the north.

Advantages

Location between Patong and north-west beaches, village scale, beach access, hillside housing options.

Disadvantages

Hills and scooter reality, seasonal crowding, not as service-dense as Cherng Talay or Phuket Town.

Who should consider it

Anyone wanting a west beach village that isn’t Patong but stays connected to both south-west and north-west.
